We've known for a while that there will be a Macau card held on March 7th. We've also known that the headline bout will be an IBF Flyweight title contest between unbeaten champion Amnat Ruenroeng (14-0, 5) and Chinese mega star Zou Shiming (6-0, 1). What we've not known thus far is who would be on the undercard with various rumours flying about but little solid really being confirmed.
This morning however we had a bout confirmed for the show. That bout is an IBF Light Welterweight world title eliminator that will see unbeaten Chinese puncher IK Yang (18-0-0-1, 13), ranked #14 by the IBF, battle against Thailand's Patomsuk Pathompothong (30-2-1, 18), ranked #8.
The bout, reported by the Thai media earlier today, is unlikely to be a final eliminator, given that neither man is in the top 5, but it will be the most significant fight either man has been involved in.
For Patomsuk this is his first bout of note since losing to Takayuki Hosokawa in Japan in a very close decision back in October 2013. As for Yang this is his continuing rise through tougher foes which saw him defeat progressively more established Thai's last year, including a bout against Sukkasem Kietyongyuth.
The bout hasn't been announced in the west but our Thai sources have told this is a done deal.
*Note Amnat and Patomsuk are stablemates and both are promoted by Kiatkreerin, who have developed a very good relationship with the IBF in recent years.
