We've know for a while that Japanese Super Featherweight champion Kenichi Ogawa (18-1, 15) [尾川 堅一] would be returning to the ring on September 10th to defend his title against Kento Matsushita (34-9-7, 13) [松下 拳斗]. What we didn't know was anything at all about the under-card, other than that Teiken were likely to put at least one notable name on the show.
Today we got some details about the card and we found that there was indeed one notable name on the show.
That notable fighter is former WBC Flyweight champion Toshiyuki Igarashi (22-2-2, 11) [五十嵐 俊幸], who hasn't had his opponent named as of yet but will be in an 8 round bout in what seems likely to be a Super Flyweight bout. this will be Igarashi's 7th bout since his lost his title, more than 3 years ago to Akira Yaegashi.
Whilst Igarashi hasn't had his opponent for the card named we do have an interesting bout that has been announced for the show. That will seen teenager Yamato Hata (2-0, 2) [波田大和] face once beaten Korean Joo Hoon Jung (4-1) in a good looking 6 rounder at Super Featherweight. Hata is someone who hasn't received much attention from those involved in Japanese boxing but this is a great test for the youngster who is taking a clear step up in class.
Hopefully we'll have Igarashi's opponent named shortly and hopefully it will be a good test for the former champion who has struggled with consistency following surgery after his win against Omar Soto
