Last week we reported that WBO purse bids for Light Flyweight champion Donnie Nietes's (32-1-4, 18) rematch with interim Moises Fuentes (19-1-1, 10) had been called off with the parties themselves agreeing terms for the fight. It appears those terms seem to have been favourable to Nietes who has got the much wanted home advantage.
The bout, pencilled in for May 10th, hasn't yet got a venue set though we're now confident to announce that is will be in the the Philippines. At the moment the two venues that are being spoken about are the Mall of Asia Arena and the Araneta Coliseum. Of the two it does appear the Mall of Asia is the most likely at the moment.
This bout, a rematch of a controversial draw in 2013, is going to be a must watch contest and better yet it appears to be joined by an interesting looking under card.
Not only will the show have the WBO Light Flyweight world title bout as it's main event but the card is set to also feature the once beaten Milan Melindo (30-1, 12) and there is a rumour that it could have the hugely popular Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista (34-3, 25).
Bautista and Melindo are bother former title challengers. Although both fell short at the top level Bautista is still a huge fan favourite due his style and Melindo is expected to challenge again for a world title somewhere down the line. A big win for either man on this card could put them immediately back in to the title picture.
We're awaiting more details on this show though it looks likely to be a very good "Pinoy Pride" card and hopefully it'll feature some of ALA's young and emerging prospects such as Mark Magsayo and Reymi Castellano Aleye.
