Popular Filipino puncher Denver Cuello (33-5-6, 21) may have lost in a WBC world title fight last year to China's Xiong Zhao Zhong but it wasn't the loss that was the most painful part of that fight. Instead it was a serious injury to his shoulder that effectively cost him the bout and has kept him out of the ring for the better part of a year.
It now seems that Cuello has healed enough to return to the gym for full training and has finally been given clearance by his doctor to spar. Prior to this clearance he was doing everything but sparring as he tried to get back to where he was a year ago in his fitness and boxing.
Known as "The Excitement", the 27 year old Cuello is a fighter we all miss seeing in the ring. He's fun to watch with his power and aggression, and although he's yet to win a world title he is certainly world class with notable wins over Ganigan Lopez and Muhammad Rachman.
We're hoping that the return to the ring will be a relatively easy one for Cuello before he looks to re-establish himself in the world rankings.
At the moment no specific date has been set for Cuello's return, but summer seems to be likely with the fighter being given plenty of time to prepare and to get back to full fighting fitness.
