Over the past few weeks there have been a lot of rumours regarding the next bout in the career of the sensational Roman Gonzalez (43-0, 37). We've known for a while that the Teiken promoted WBC Flyweight champion would be defending his belt on October 17th as part of the under-card to the Gennady Golovkin Vs David Lemieux Middleweight unification bout.
On Tuesday it was finally announce that Gonzalez would be facing Filipino-American Brian Viloria (36-4-0-2, 22) in what is an interesting bout, though one that seems likely to have a foregone conclusion.
Viloria, in his prime, was a fantastic fighter who could box or fight. His ability took him to 3 world title reigns, including a reign as the WBA/WBO unified Flyweight champion. His career however has been up and down and many now suspect he's coming to the end of his career.
For Viloria this could be one last shot at the top, one final hurrah. The odds however seem clear that that he's the next sacrificial lamb to Gonzalez, who is himself racing towards a 50-0 record. Hopefully this will be the final showcase for Gonzalez before he's matched with another prime Flyweight, such as Amnat Ruenroeng or Juan Francisco Estrada.
