Earlier this year we had expected IBF Flyweight champion Amnat Ruenroeng (13-0, 5) to be the target of China's Zou Shiming (4-0, 1) it appears however that, following his recent victory over Kazuto Ioka (14-1, 9) he now has a second high paying option.
Whilst we we know that Bob Arum and Top Rank have made noises about the Shiming fight plenty suspect that Shiming won't be ready for an Amnat fight by the end of the year.
If Shiming isn't ready then a second option for Amnat could well be a rematch with Ioka. This story is one that has been mentioned in the Japanese press with a speculated date some time in fall.
Of course is Shiming wants the title fight it would give Amnat a really good chance to play the sides off against each other each other for the biggest pay day, otherwise he'll likely view the opportunity as a chance to get two more big pay days.
If Ioka can't get the Amnat rematch we would expect him to fight in a non-title fight in the fall before preparing to face one of the Flyweight champions at the end of the year. This would allow him the time to adapt fully to the 112lb division before again attempting to become a 3-weight champion. That additional time could well see a more complete and aggressive Ioka as opposed to the tame and and limited one who was out out pointed by Amnat.

Interesting stuff! Ioka could end up with an all Japanese showdown/rematch with Yaegashi in the fall, should he be successful in his mandatory defense against Gonzalez (which is no easy task). Interesting times ahead in the remainder of 2014 in the not so recognized Flyweight division :)
