Sometimes you see a special talent in action and you know he's going to be a star. That's exactly what we saw on the penultimate bout on "Champions of Gold" as the very talented and heavy handed Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez (29-0, 23) did an absolute number on the supposedly tough Junior Talipeau (20-3-1, 7)
Going into the fight Sanchez, known as "Zurdo" due to his southpaw stance, was being hyped as one of the next big things in Mexican boxing. Stood at 6'2" he was obviously a big but what we didn't really know was just how good he was. It didn't take long however to find out just how good the Mexican was as he decimated Talipeau inside a round.
Capable of fighting on both the inside and the outside Sanchez showed what we capable of by dropping Talipeau 3 times inside the opening round . It seemed every time the Mexican unloaded the Australian was in serious trouble.
The win, which was genuinely a blitz job by the Mexican, was a sensational performance and hopefully he'll be stepped up in his next bout. It was a great victory but there is now no point in matching Sanchez with anything but world level opponents, he is simply too good, too big, too fast, too strong and too powerful for anyone below the fringes of world level.
