Over the weekend we received details regarding the first world title defense by Japanese fighter Yuko Kuroki (11-4-1, 6), the current WBC female Minimumweight champion.
From the information we've been given Kuroki will be defending her title on November 1st at the ACROS in her home of Fukuoka. The home support may well be needed as the champion takes on a very good challenger in the form of Mexico's Katia Gutierrez (19-4, 4), a talented and experienced challenger with a former reign as the IBF female Minimumweight champion.
The bout is the only one to have been announced for the card thus far though it does look like a sensational contest. Kuroki is a fighter with the world at her finger tips. Blessed with good looks and real in-ring ability she has the potential to be the face of female boxing in Japan. This is however the most difficult fight of her career and a clear step up from her last fight, a win over Mari Ando to win the title. As for Gutierrez this will be her second world title fight against an Asian, having previously stopped Filipino Gretchen Abaniel, and her 7th world title fight in total, notably however it will be her first bout outside of Mexico.
