Earlier today Japanese fans Tokyo had the chance to see a world champion in the ring, as IBF Super Bantamweight champion Yukinori Oguni (19-1-1, 7) [小國 以載] spoke to the crowd about his big win over Jonathan Guzman (22-1-0-1, 22), and his future.
Oguni, wearing a fake nose, stated that he had injured both his left thumb and right hand in the win over Guzman and would be out of the gym for a lengthy amount of time, thought to be 3 to 4 months.
When back from the injuries Oguni will make his first defense of the title, in what will be a mandatory title fight against Ryosuke Iwasa (22-2, 14) [岩佐 亮佑]. That bout appears to be loosely planned for June or July and it appears that Oguni will be out to make a statement to the media, who he felt over-looked his chances ahead of the bout with Guzman.
Although he felt over-looked before facing Guzman the Kadoebi Houseki fighter appears to have become a hit with media since the win and the media appear to be well behind him now, with the hope being that he can become a star and relly build on the win over Guzman and his new found fame.
