Earlier today Japanese fight fans saw an announce from Hiroki Ioka who announced a December 29th show headlined by Japanese Light Middlweight champion Yuki Nonaka (30-8-3, 9) [野中 悠樹] who will be returning to the ring for his 6th defense of the title, as he takes on fellow veteran Yosuke Kirima (23-6-2, 16) [切間 庸裕].
For Nonaka the bout will see him attempt to extend a title reign that began back in August 2014 and has seen him defend his title against the likes of Charles Bellamy, Takayuki Hosokawa, Koshinmaru Saito and Ryosuke Maruki. Although those defenses have been good, and have helped him to gain world rankings with both the IBF and WBO, they have seen Nonaka struggle at times and he was certainly fortunate to over-come maruki earlier this year.
For Kirima the bout will be his third shot at a Japanese title, having suffered stoppage losses to both Daisuke Nakagawa and Tadashi Yuba, and his 4th title fight in total, with Kirima also losing in an IPBF Pan Pacific title fight earlier this year.
The fight will be a must win for both with Nonaka heading towards his 40th birthday and Kirima certainly unlikely to rebuild to another title fight if he suffers another defeat here.
