Earlier today we were e-mailed by our good friend Pal who informed us that the WBC Minimumweight title fight, between defending champion Wanheng Menayothin (39-0, 14) and Korean banger Korean Young Gil Bae (26-4-1, 21), had seen the challenger fail to make weight.
From the e-mail we received it appears that the Korean was 1.5lbs over the Minimumweight limit, a limit that he had never previously made. Not only was he over-weight but it appears that he he never tried to make the limit.
The weigh in fiasco leaves us all wondering what the WBC were doing by allowing him to even fight for the title given that he had never come close to the divisional limit before. Whilst Bae should be ashamed the WBC have also been left with egg on their face whilst the promoter of the bout should also be feeling very annoyed.
Whilst Bae has failed to make weight it does seem like the bout will take place and it will be televised on Channel 7 tomorrow from 13:43 to 16:45, local time. The telecast is also expected to show Petch sor Chitpattana (33-0, 21), defending his WBC Youth Silver Bantamweight title against Filipino Jeson Umbal (8-3, 6), the exciting Chanachai CP Freshmart (4-0, 2), defending his WBC Youth Minimumweight title against Indonesian Silem Serang (2-1) and bouts featuring former world champion Oleydong Sithsamerchai (57-1-1, 22) and Noknoi Sitthiprasert (54-4, 32), who looks to extend his insanely long winning run.
