Tomorrow fight fans in Sakai City, Osaka, will get the chance to see WBO Female Flyweight champion Nana Yoshikawa (7-1, 4) [好川 菜々] making her first defense of the title, as she takes on Mexican challenger Monserrat Alarcon (8-3-2).
Today the two women took part in their in, and both made weight for their bout.
On the scales the taller, and older, Yoshikawa was the heavier fighter. She came in at 112lbs, dead on the divisional limit, and equalling her career highest which she was exactly a year ago when she beat Saochiengrai Sithkrupalachai. Despite coming in at a career high she looked in great condition and was full of confidence.
Alarcon, also known as "Raya", was was the out and out heaviest recorded weight of her career, coming in at 111½lbs. Despite that she looked in good shape, was also confident and very cordial with no fake animosity between the fighters, who appeared to have real respect for each other.
