Earlier tonight fans in South Africa saw Japan's Yohei Tobe (10-2-1, 6) [戸部洋平] score one of his most impressive victories to date, knocking out local favourite Luzuko Siyo (15-4, 12) in the 7th round of their bout, to claim the WBA International Super Flyweight title.
The former Japanese Super Flyweight champion started the bout brightly and seemed to feel at ease, despite the fact the crowd were clearly behind Siyo.
Although Siyo did get through wish some shots of his own he was never able to make Tobe respect him and the Japanese fighter seemed to always find a chance to respond with a shot of his own, as and when he wanted.
In round Tobe landed one of the best shots of his career, a devastating right hand, that sent Siyo down hard. It was a nasty shot that had KO written all over it, and unfortunately for Siyo it caught him clean. That was it, and Siyo's night was done.
For Tobe the result was the perfect one to make his international debut and the result, and KO shot, will have opened up opportunities for him, with a potential WBA world ranking just around the corner. For Misako gym, it's a great win for one of their fighters and it seems likely that we'll see Tobe in another big bout before the year is over.
