Last Friday Japanese boxing fans in Tokyo saw Shinsuke Yamanaka (25-0-2, 17) [山中慎介] record his 10th defense of his WBC Bantamweight world title, as he out pointed Liborio Solis (23-4-1, 10). The bout, which saw both men being dropped twice, was one of Yamanaka's toughest bouts and managed to draw a worthy TV audience in Kanto.
The bout, which was only aired in the Kanto region. Had an average viewing figure of 9.4% which is a little over 4,000,000.
Whilst the figure isn't huge it was was an impressive figure given the relatively small area that the fight was shown, due to NTV only broadcasting in Tokyo. It was also an impressive figure given that it clashed with several other major events including one on a national channel that drew massive numbers across the country, as well as direct competition from an Olympic qualifying match of soccer between China and Japan, which was aired on TV Tokyo.
