A very reliable source has informed us that Go Onaga (25-2-2, 18) will return to the ring on November 15th, as he squeezes in a 4th fight of the year. The Japanese fighter, currently ranked #10 by the IBF at Super Flyweight, will be up against in-form Filipino Jonas Sultan (9-2, 5) in a bout that genuinely looks a very exciting, despite the gulf in experience.
Onaga, obviously, will be favoured coming in to this bout, however the 35 year old Southpaw from the Ohashi Gym has spent the last few years toiling his career away and facing very poor opposition. In his prime he was a solid and credible fighters, as shown by the fact he scored a draw with Teiru Kinoshita, and ran him close in a second meeting. By now however he is certainly "post-prime" and although he has had a busy 2015 it's hard to know just how much he has left in the tank.
Whilst we know that Sultan will come in to this bout as the under-dog we would certainly describe him as a live under-dog and a man in genuine form. His 2 losses have both been split decisions to more experienced fighters whilst he has won his last 5 bouts, including notable wins over former OPBF title contender Jerson Mancio, the then unbeaten Brian Lobentania and the world ranked Rene Dacquel. That sort of form is impressive and could well be the sort of form to boost his confidence and help him upset Onaga.
At the moment no other bouts for this show have been mentioned, though we do know that the show will take place in Okinawa, where Onaga was born.
