Earlier today fans in Osaka had the chance to see the West Japan Rookie of the Year finals.
In the Minimumweight bout, that kicked the show off, teenager Daiki Tomita (6-0, 1) [冨田 大樹] continued his perfect start as he out pointed Shintaro Ryuko (3-1, 1) [龍虎 慎太郎] with the judges scoring the bout 40-36, twice, and 40-37, to the very promising 18 year old.
At Light Flyweight Kenta Sakata (5-2-1) [坂田 健太] took a narrow decision over Shota Oka (3-5, 1) [岡 翔太]. Oka was dropped in round 2 but battled back, losing the bout with scores of 38-37, twice, and 39-37 all to Sakata.
At Flyweight Ryosuke Nasu (6-1-2, 1) [那須 亮祐] over-came Tatsuya Terada (3-2-1) [寺田 達弥] with a majority decision. Two of the judges scored the bout 40-37 to Nasu whilst the dissenting judge had it 38-38.
The Super Flyweight bout, the only contest scheduled for 5 rounds on the show, saw Kota Fujimoto (5-0, 1) [藤本 耕太] extend his winning record with a majority decision over Kenta Nomura (4-1, 1) [野村 健太]. The bout was nip and took through out but it seemed like Kota just wanted it a bit more and it showed on the cards, with two judges having it 49-47 to the winner.
We got our first stoppage of the day at Bantamweight as the exciting Hibiki Jogo (3-0, 3) [城後 響 ] scored an opening round stoppage over Hiroaki Satomura (1-3, 1) [里村 広明]. Jogo, from the Ioka gym, has now scored 3 wins in a combined 5 rounds and looks like a legitimately exciting puncher who is potentially a future star from the Osaka region.
At Super Bantamweight Bunta Okamoto (4-0, 2) [岡本 文太] took a majority decision over the experienced Yusuke Hiranuma (6-2) [平沼 勇介]. Not a lot separated these two with one judge having the bout level and another scoring it 39-38 to Okamoto.
Talking about close, the Featherweight bout between Tyuyoshi Sawai (1-1-,1) [澤井 剛志] and Shuzo Inada (4-0-1, 2) [稲田 修蔵] ended in a split decision draw, with both having one judge view the bout 39-37 along with a 38-38 card. Despite the draw Sawai will advance to the next round of the Rookie of the Year.
The second stoppage on the card came at Super Featherweight where Ryuji Ueda (6-0, 1) [上田 隆司] stopped Shu Takeuchi (3-1, 2) [竹内 周] in the 2nd round. Takeuchi was stopped due to a very nasty cut on his left eyelid.
We got another stoppage at Lightweight as the debuting Yoshiki Takahashi (1-0, 1) [高橋 良希] scored a 4th round TKO win over Shosuke Jo (3-2-1) [城 将祐]. The towel came in to save Jo in what was a very impressive performance from Takahashi.
Another debuting securing a stoppage win was Daisuke Nishimura (1-0, 1) [西村 大助] who impressed with a 2nd round stoppage against Shota Somekawa (1-2, 1) [染川 翔太].
All the winners will return to the ring on November 6th to fight in the next round of the Rookie of the Year with the winners of those bouts fighting in the All Japan final on December 23rd.
