The on going saga regarding Kohei Kono's (30-8-1, 13) mandatory defence of the WBA Super Flyweight title against Koki Kameda (33-1, 18) took another turn earlier today when Kono's team, Watanabe, expressed their desire to host the bout in Asia.
We already know that the bout can't take place in Japan, due to the ban imposed on Kameda, though it appears that Watanabe are happy to stage the bout across Asia with Thailand, South Korea and Macau all being mentioned as possible venues for the bout.
It seems that Watanabe are trying to push this fight for Asia though numerous reports are suggesting they aren't really getting anywhere and almost certainly going to be forced to go to purse bids. If this happens it's hard to see Watanabe winning he bids considering that Kameda is advised by powerful America Al Haymon who has shown that he has deep pockets and will bid big for fights involving his fighters.
Japanese sources suggest that Kohei Kono Vs Koki Kameda is expected in June and in the US
