Over the last 12 hours or saw Indian sources have broken the news that Indian boxing superstar Vijender Singh (8-0, 7) will return to the ring on April 1st to face unbeaten Chinese Zulpikar Maimaitiali (7-0-1, 5) in what looks like a really solid match up and will be a regional title unification bout.
Coming in to the bout the Indian fighter is the WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight champion, having won that title last July when he took a 10 round decision win over Kerry Hope. Since winnignt hat title he has defended the belt once, stopping a disinterested Francis Cheka in round 3. Those bouts have been the two biggest of Singh's professional career and have seen him show significant improvements to his earlier contests, though there was still plenty of flaws that do need working on if Singh is to have the professional success that his team are dreaming of.
As for Maimaitiali,he's the vacant WBO Oriental Super Middleweight cha, mpion, winnignt hat title last time out with a 4th round TKO win against Thomas Mashali. For him this bout will be a notable step up in class, though he has shone on the Chinese circuit, with his only blotch being a technical decision in his second professional bout, against Korean Joo Young Kwon in Macau. Notably however this wil be only his second bout outside of the Chinese Mainland, and his first outside of Chinese controlled land.
The bout is said to be set for Mumbai, giving Singh a major home advanage, but it will be the first time the Indian will be in the ring with a hungry, young puncher.
