Late last night the WBC sent out an e-mail regarding their 2015 World Convention. Whilst that usually isn't news to us, were interesting this announcement as the WBC will be going to China for it with Kumming playing host to the event.
Kumming isn't a huge boxing city. It's not like Tokyo, Cebu or Texas where fights are held regularly, however it is the home city of China's most notable promoter Zovi and their most interesting fighter Xing Zhao Zhong, China's only male world champion.
Whilst we're going to be cynical we suspect the decision to have this convention in China is to try and help the growth of boxing in the country. Despite Bob Arum's attempts to turn China into a boxing country the uptake hasn't been drastic, as of yet, and it seems to make sense that the WBC might be able to help open the giant untapped market of the Chinese population.
The event will be the 53rd annual World Convention held by the WBC and will begin on November 1st at the Intercontinental Kunming Hotel and it'll finish on November 7th.
