Earlier today Japanese boxing fans, on the whole, turned their attention to the Sky Arena in Zama, Kanagawa, for the WBO Super Flyweight world title bout between Naoya Inoue and Petchbarngborn Kokietgym.
Some Osaka however put the world title bout to the back of their mind and instead went to the Yogogawa Ward Center in Osaka City to watch a card headlined by 20 year old hopeful Takuya Uehara (10-0, 6) [上原 拓哉]. The unbeaten youngster maintained his perfect record with a decision win against Katsuhiko Kanno (9-10-7, 4) [菅能 克彦], though had his toughest bout so far as the 34 year old Konno refused to back down and genuine gave the youngster a much needed test.
The youngster found a home for his straigth left hand early in the bout and had success in the early rounds, however a headclash in round 3 left him cut and it seemed to shake him from his gameplan. The cut allowed Kanno back in though eventually the youngster regrouped and claimed enough rounds to secure a decision win.
The card for this one read 79-76 and 78-76, twice, all in favour of the youngster.
