Tomorrow fans at the Korakuen Hall will get the chance to see a number of notable bouts at a "reason" promoted "Dangan" card. One of those notable bouts is an OPBF Featherweight title bout that sees reigning champion Ryo Takenaka (13-3-1, 7) [竹中 良] make the first defense of his title, as he takes on the determined Akira Shono (9-7-2, 5) [正野 晃].
On paper the bout looks looks like a mismatch, however Shono has sounded confident in the build up and looks to be in the shape of his career, weighing in almost 1/2 pound under the 126lb limit. Aged 35 he'll know that this is likely to be his only opportunity and it's fair to say he will put it all on the line.
The champion, who won the title last year stopping Vinvin Rufino, was also 125½lbs on the scales and looked in great shape. This will be his first bout since winning the title, though it should be noted that he did suffer a hand injury and the bout will be a test of that hand. The pressure is on Takenaka is to perform here though he will be expected to shine against an opponent few are giving any chance to.
