Tomorrow Japanese fans at the Korakuen hall will get the chance to see Ryo Takenaka (15-3-1, 8) [竹中 良] defending his OPBF Featherweight title against Ryuto Araya (11-4-1,3) [荒谷 龍人]. The bout is certainly not a high profile one, and won't actually be aired live anywhere, yet it has strangely piqued he interested in the UK with one betting company actually taking bets on the bout.
Although one company are taking bets on the bout we doubt we'd be surprising anyone to report that the odds are less than appealing.
Takenaka, who will be seeking his third defense as the champion, is a frankly ridiculous 1/20 to retain the title. Although he should rightfully be favoured we can't imagine many will be having a nibble on him at such a low return.
Araya on the other hand is an 8/1 under-dog. It's a mildly warm price on the challenger, who has got the power to hurt Takenaka even if he is the less skilled man.
We'll admit it's a very peculiar bout for the betting company to be taking bets on, but it is nice to see more Japanese bouts being put on these bettings sites and improving the interest in Asian boxing in general. Sadly they've picked a pretty low key contest, and seem to have missed a trick given the fact that many, including our selves, though that the recent Yasutaka Ishimoto Vs Yusaku Kuga rematch we a 50-50 match up, unlike the upcoming Takenaka Vs Araya bout.
