Back on May 1st fans saw Takahiro Ao (27-3-1-1, 12) take a beating at the hands of Raymundo Beltran (29-7-1-1, 17). The two men were supposed to fight for the WBO Lightweight title but, unfortunately, Beltran failed to make weight. Whilst the weigh in faux pas didn't prevent Ao from winning the bout the did make life difficult for him and in the ring Beltran looked several divisions than the Japanese fighter, who was stopped in round 2.
At the time the defeat was Ao's first stoppage loss and seemed to suggest that he wasn't big enough, tough enough or strong enough to make a mark on the Lightweight division.
As it turned out Beltran didn't just fail to make the weight limit for the bout but subsequently failed a drugs test for the bout.
The failure of the drug test has seen Beltran given a paltry 9 month suspension, a fine, and seen the win over-turned with the bout now being recognised as a no-contest. As a result of the drugs test we've also since seen Ao take a WBO world ranking, though unfortunately not get a shot at the title that he was cheated out of fairly fighting for.
