Earlier today Japanese fans at the Korakuen Hall saw a rematch between two Rookie of the Year winners.
The bout saw Ryohei Takahashi (10-2-1, 2) [高橋 竜平] take a really well fought decision win over the previously unbeaten Wataru Takeda (9-1-1, 3) [武田 航], with the judges scoring the exciting bout 77-75, 77-75 and 78-75 to Takahashi.
The bout was a back and forth battle that heated up in the middle rounds and was nip and tuck through out, with the judges just feeling that Takahashi was the more effective man in the second half of the bout, with all 3 judges giving Takahashi a sweep of the final 3 rounds.
These two men had met back in October 2013, when the two fought to a draw in what was Takeda's debut. From that bout both would build solid careers with Takahashi claiming a Rookie crown in 2014 and Takeda in 2015. Given the way both men performed today there is no doubting that both still have bright futures ahead, and maybe another bout, down the line, would be a good thing for both fighters, though there is no need to rush that.
