Over this past weekend fans in Korea had the chance to see female star Su Yun Hong (12-1-1, 6) retain her WIBA Light Flyweight title with a stoppage victory over Thai challenger Namwaan Sithpracha (7-2, 4).
The bout, which was aired on Korea TV, seemed to slip below the radar and even the KBF, who sanctioned the contest, was slow to release the details regarding the winner. When they did release the rules however no one was really shocked with Hong's victory.
The details regarding the bout are, sadly, rather scarce though we do know that Hong won the bout after 27 seconds of round 4 with a TKO victory. Whether that was a cut, a barrage of punches, the towel coming in or the referee waving the bout off is certainly unclear at the moment.
For Hong this was the first defense of the title that she won late last year, with a 10 round decision over Ma Li of China. We're hoping that 2016 brings tougher bouts for the Korean though we are expecting, sadly, more easy ones like this in the wake of her 2014 defeat at the hands of Mako Yamada. As for Namwaan, this was the second time she had faced a fighter with a win to her record and it was also her second stoppage loss, suggesting that there's a reason she's been matched against 7 very limited opponents so far.
The KBF also report that Filipino fighter Ernie Sanchez (16-6-1, 7) stopped local fighter Ji-Hoon Cha (4-1-5) in just 19 seconds!
