Japanese amateur star Satoshi Shimizu returned to the ring earlier today and looked as classy and talented as ever as he took a comfortable win over Kimoto Moritakara from Nihon University.
Shimizu, who recently signed with the APB, is of course a major name on the Japanese amateur scene having won an Olympic boxing medal in London 2012, the first Olympic medal for a Japanese boxer since 1968.
Although some had hoped Shimizu would turn professional, like Ryota Murata, it seems he is intent on going to the 2016 Olympics in Rio and his way there appears to be through the APB which kicks off later this year. The hope, for us, is that Shimizu will compete at Rio and then decide to turn professional where he can show off his talents to a much wider audience.
