Earlier this month the Ohashi gym announced that Satoshi Hosono (32-2-1, 21) [細野 悟] would be facing off in an IBF Featherweight world title eliminator against Jonathan Victor Barros (40-4-1, 22) on October 3rd as he looked for a 4th world title bout.
With that bout now firmly in Hosono's mind he has vacated the Japanese Featherweight title, indicating to the JBC that he was wanting to vacate back on July 15th.
As the champion Hosono was enjoying his second domestic title reign and was having a genuine good run of wins as the champion. In total he recorded 6 defenses taking the unbeaten record of Gosuke Seki, twice over-coming Rikiya Fukuhara, and notching narrow decision wins over Akifumi Shimoda and Takuya Watanabe, as well as an easy defence over Tatsuya Otsubo.
Since regain the Japanese title back in 2014 Hosono has made it clear that his focus was a world title fight and it now seems that he is just a fight or two away from getting such a high profile bout, with Welshman Lee Selby looking likely to be his target.
At the moment it's unclear who will be fighting for the newly vacated title but there are a number of fighters already interested in the belt. Included in those are current #1 contender Shota Hayashi (27-5-1, 17) [林 翔太], the #2 contender Hiroshige Osawa (30-3-4, 19) [大沢 宏晋]. former world champion Akifumi Shimoda (30-5-2, 13) [下田 昭文] and veteran Noriyuki Ueno (18-13-5, 5) [上野 則之].
