On December 31st Japanese fans in Tokyo will see WBA Light Flyweight champuion Ryoichi Taguchi (25-2-1, 11) [田口良一] battle against the unbeaten Venezuelan Carlos Canizales (16-0, 13), with Taguchi seeking the 5th defense of his title.
Today, ahead of that fight the Watanabe gym man took to the ring to partake in a public training session, and looked in great shape for the bout against the unbeaten challenger.
The training session saw Taguchi work the mitts and combination pads of trainer Yuta Ishihara, who really put Taguchi through a good session of training. The champion not only worked up a good sweat but was forced to work hard to pushj Ishihara back in an interesting display of body punching, suggesting that Taguchi's gameplan involves in breaking down Canizales.
Although Taguchi has lacked stoppages through his career the game plan here seems to be based around stopping the unbeaten challenger and proving his ability and power at world title level. If he does that we're expecting to see Taguchi in a more notable bout next year.
