Over the weekend Japanese Bantamweight champion Ryo Akaho (30-2-2, 19) [赤穂 亮] revealed, though his blog, that he would be returning to the ring on August 5th to make his first defense of Japanese title, with the bout to be held as part of a Dynamic Glove card.
At the moment the full details haven't been made totally public but it seems like the bout will see Akaho return to the Korakuen Hall, for his 27th fight at the venue, and take on mandatory title challenger Yuta Saito (10-7-3, 7) [齊藤 裕太], who essentially secured a mandatory title shot earlier this year when he fought to a majority draw with Tatsuya Takahashi [高橋 竜也].
The champion revealed that he had done a photo shoot on Saturday as part of the promotion for the fight, and it seems likely that the bout will not only be on G+ as part of their Dynamic Glove series of shows but will also be featured on Asign, due to the fact that Hikari Yokohama, Akaho's promoter, are one of the leading promoters behind that online service.
Whilst the bout will be Akaho's first title defense it will also be Saito's first career title bout, and comes following a career charge of sorts after a 7-6-2 (6) start to his professional career. Sadly for him the bout is a huge step up in classand a win would be hugely surprising for the challenger given his performances so far.
We're expecting the bout to be officially announced in the very near future, but with Akaho essentially confirming the bout it's hard to imagine he'll be wrong here.
