We're sad to report that legendary journalist and broadcatser Ronnie Nathanielsz passed away yesterday at the age of 81, after several days on life support.
The Sri Lankan born Nathanielsz had long worked in Filipino boxing where he worked as arguably the countries most signfiicant media person. He was often the first man to Filipino related boxing news stories, a good friend to numerous fighter, able to get exclusives and a commentator for numerous Filipino shows.
His first major break through came in 1975 when he was a key figure involved in making the "Thrilla in Manila" and ever since he was a pivotal figure in the sport and managed to have some sort of link to pretty much every notable Filipino fighter of the last 4 decades.
Sadly Nathanielsz suffered a heart attack whilst on his way to the recent Manny Pacquiao Vs Jessie Vargas bout, that heart attack lead to him being on life support and sadly his passing.
The boxing world, particularly in the Philippines, will miss Nathanielsz and his constant reporting on the Filipino boxing scene. It is however to Ronnie's family that we'd like to send our thoughts.
RIP Ronnie Nathanielsz
