Yesterday fight fans got a much anticipated announcement, confirming the Super Flyweight super fight between Nicaraguan sensation, and current WBC Flyweight champion, Roman Gonzalez (45-0, 38) and current WBC Super Flyweight champion Carlos Cuadras (35-0-1, 27). The announcement not only confirmed that the bout was agreed but also announced that it had been added to the already packed date of September 10th.
The two Teiken fighters will be each looking to secure a career defining victory. For Cuadras a win over the Nicaraguan, wildly regarded as the best fighter on the planet, would put him on the radar of millions of fight fans who aren't aware of him. For Gonzalez the bout could potentially see him becoming a 4-weight world champion.
Not only is the bout potentially career defining but it's also one that could potentially open doors to major fights in 2017 against WBO champion Naoya Inoue (10-0, 8) [井上 尚弥] or WBA champion Kohei Kono (32-8-1, 13) [河野 公平]. It would also seemingly confirmed the bout between Nawaphon Por Chokchai (34-0, 27) [นวพล นครหลวงโปรโมชั่น] and Juan Hernandez (32-2, 23), who have been told to negotiate for the WBC Interim title, potentially leading to the winner claiming the vacant title.
The show will be co-promoted by Teiken and K2 and there is speculation that other Japanese fighter may be on the card looking to build their Stateside profile. One of those could be Takashi Miura (30-3-2, 23) [三浦 隆司], who was recently ordered to negotiate with Miguel Roman (56-11, 43).
Whilst the bout it's self is likely to be an action packed thriller it's not the only thing to be excited about with the bout potentially opening up a lot of intriguing contests in the near future
