Rikki Naito and Masayuki Ito make weight for tomorrow's Super Featherweight title fight
Tomorrow sees the Champions Carnival kick off with the first Japanese title fight of the year. That bout will see the unbeaten Super Featherweight champion Rikki Naito (11-0, 5) attempting to record the second defence of the title he won last February as he battles against unbeaten foe Masayuki Ito (16-0-1, 7).
Today was the weigh in for that fight.
On the scales Ito was just under the Super Featherweight limit on his first attempt, coming in at 58.8KG, or around 129½lbs. Things however weren't as easy for the champion who weighed in over the limit on his first attempt, and again when he took his pants off. Thankfully however he did eventually sneak under the limit.
From what we understand Naito was expecting to shed 100g's at the venue, around ¼lbs, but for whatever reason it didn't quite come off as easily as he expected.
Although Naito did struggle with the scales both men seemed confident of winning here and a win will almost certainly move them towards bigger and better fights.
For fans interested in watching this bout, it will be aired on tape delay on free-to-air Japanese channel Fuji TV.
