Sources in Japan have informed us that Filipino fighter Ricky Sismundo (30-9-2, 13) will be back in the ring on May 13th as he travels to Quebec, Canada to face former world title challenger Dierry Jean (29-2, 20) in an 8 round bout at a contracted 140lbs.
The news was broken by Sismundo's good friend and associate Kei Nidaira, who formerly promoted Sismundo in Japan where he fought as "Mondo Harada". It was in Japan that Sismundo scored several of his most notable wins, including a victory over former OPBF/JBC champion Yoshitaka Kato, as well as wins over Akihiro Kondo and Shuhei Tsuchiya and challenge the OPBF champion Masayoshi Nakatani.
Although well known in Japan Sismundo also caught the attention of American fans earlier this year as he gave the highly touted Jose Felix Jr a genuine scare, with many feeling that Sismundo had been robbed against the more touted and better connected fighter.
As for Jean he's an exciting Canadian based Canadian who has twice challenged for world titles, losing to the then IBF champion Lamont Peterson in 2014 and current WBO champion Terence Crawford last year, notably this will be his first bout since being stopped by Crawford.
This bout comes on the undercard of an IBF youth title fight feature the unbeaten Steven Butler (15-0-1, 12), with Butler featuring on the poster for the show.
