Whilst we all know that the Japanese domestic scene is exciting the same can also be said for the often over-looked Filipino domestic scene which can often provide some of the sports most interesting yet over-looked bouts.
Last year Filipino fans in Muntinlupa City saw one such interesting bout as the heavy handed Benezer Alolod (16-5-5, 5) record the second defence of the GAB Light Flyweight title. That bout saw the "Bulldozer" narrowly over-come the under-rated Renren Tesorio (13-6-3, 4) with a much debated split decision. The decision left both men feeling unfulfilled and saw both men talking about a rematch, a rematch that has now been signed for March 14th at the Mandaluyong Gym in Mandaluyong City.
Although neither fighter is a big international star both are talented and both have notable wins on their record.
On paper it's Alolod who holds the most noteworthy wins with victories over Lionel Mark Duran, Jomar Fajardo, Jerson Mancio and, most notably, Rey Loreto. His record might not look fantastic on paper but the 23 year old has lost just once in his last in 14 bouts, a stoppage loss to Nkosinathi Joyi. That run dates back almost 4 years and shows just how much he has developed since beginning his career 4-4-1 (1).
As for Tesorio he has lost 5 of his last 8 but they have included losses to Alolod, Toshiyuki Igarashi and Cris Paulino, with the losses to Alolod and Igarashi both being very competitive. Also at 22 years old he seems to finally be finding his groove and there is hope that he will developed his ability to become a champion somewhere down the line.
At the moment this is the only bout announced for the show though it does look like one of the best Filipino domestic fights we could possibly ask for. A really good match up.
