It's rare that a non-title domestic fight really looks like something special but on August 21st we appear set for one such bout as former Japanese Super Featherweight champion Daiki Kaneko (21-4-3, 14) takes on the heavy handed Masao Nakamura (19-3, 19), himself a former OPBF Super Featherweight champion.
The bout is a special looking contest between two men who have their flaws but have styles that should, on paper, work amazingly well and lead us to a sure fire humdinger of a 10 round bout.
Kaneko isn't the most skilled nor the most defensively intelligent fighter, he is, however incredibly strong and tough and comes to fight every time he's in the ring. Nakamura on the other hand has a questionable chin and is, of course, defensively suspect but always comes seeking the knockout and will be looking to take off Kaneko's head with every single shot.
Earlier the week saw the poster for the bout being released and we've got to admit that it's a simple and basic one with the two fighters and the name of the show. It's not a poster that really does the fight justice, but in all fairness the fight sells it's self.
Although the bout isn't a title bout we have been lead to believe that the contest will have title implications with one source reporting that the winner is likely to get a fight with unbeaten Japanese champion Rikki Naito (13-0, 5) or a shot at the winner of the upcoming OPBF title fight between Masayuki Ito (16-1-1, 7) and Dai Iwai (17-3-1, 6), either man against any of those would also make for a really exciting match up.
