It's a busy week for Japanese boxing fans and this coming Sunday we'll see Petchbarngborn Kokietgym (38-7-1, 18) [เพชรบางบอน ก่อเกียรติยิม] challenge WBO Super Flyweight champion Naoya Inoue (10-0, 8) [井上 尚弥]. Today, ahead of that bout, Petchbarngborn took part in a public work out.
The Thai, who is riding a 16 fight winning streak, Described Inoue as a "superstar" and stated that he was "glad" to fight such a champion. However he wasn't intimidated and he gave himself a 50-50 chance to over-come Inoue and become the world champion himself, show some serious self confidence with that analysis.
As for the training it was a short session that last about 30 minutes and saw him do 3 rounds of mitt work, a couple of rounds of the bag and a light warm up. What was notable however was the fact that the the trainer Petchbarngborn was working with is a man familiar with beating a perceived monster. That was former fighter Chatchai Sasakul [ฉัตรชัย อีลิทยิม], who famously took the WBC Flyweight title from Yuri Arbachakov, before being dethroned himself by a rampaging Manny Pacquiao. It seems working with Chatchai has helped alter the Thai's style and made him a better fighter.
