Over the past 24 hours it's been announced that Thailand's Patomsith Pathompothong (12-4, 5) will be facing Filipino Filipino Benjie Suganob (9-3-1, 5) for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific Featherweight title on August 12th in Bangkok.
Whilst neither fighter is particularly well known this fight will allow the winner to move towards an IBF world ranking, and further strengthen the relationship between the IBF and Kiatkreerin, the promoter of Patomsith. It's that relationship which has lead to this bout and has, in the past, seen various Thai gain very high IBF rankings with out real explanation. Those high rankings have lead to recent world title eliminators for two of Patomsith's stablemates, Mike Tawatchai and Patomsuk Pathompothong.
For those who recognise Patomsith's name he is best known for his bout back in June, when he was clearly out pointed by Hisashi Amagasa in Japan. In that bout Patomsith put in a good effort but came up very short against the former world title challenger. As for Sugamob this will be his highest profile bout and his first outside of the Philippines.
The bout will televised on Mono29, who have themselves got a great working relationship with Kiatkreerin and will be aired at 16:00 Thai time on August 12th.
