Earlier today we were informed that an OPBF female Flyweight title bout had been agreed for February 21st, with the bout to be held in Bangkok. The bout in question will see Japan's 21 year Yunoka Furukawa (6-1-2, 4) battle against Filipino Carleans Rivas (4-3-3),
For the once beaten Japanese fighters this will be, by far, he most significant bout. The Watanabe gym fighter, ranked the #1 contender for the title, began her career in 2012 and began with a draw, then a loss and was 1-1-2 before she began to find her feet. Since then she has reeled off 5 straight wins and gained some experiences of fighting in Thailand. with her most recent bout coming at the Meenayothin Camp in Bangkok. Despite building her experience this is a notable step up and her first bout at title level.
Rivas on the other hand will be fighting in her 3rd title bout, though does enter 0-2 in title match up.
The Filipino fighter certainly has a poor looking record, and strangely started professional life 2-0-3. Sadly since her 5 fight unbeaten run she has found life hard in the ring, going 2-3, with notable losses to Jessebelle Pagaduan and Tamao Ozawa. Those losses have generaly come to good fighters, but she has yet to score a win of any real note, and has gone 2-0-2 with compatriot Christine Latube
Although the bout isn't a huge one it will be a massive one for the two fighters who know that this is a great chance to claim their first silverware and we suspect both will give their all in the ring in an attempt to claim their biggest wins to date.
