December 26th is known in various countries as "Boxing Day" and although we know there was no major boxing in those particular countries there was still action in Japan where fans had the chance to see a battle for the vacant OPBF Super Bantamweight title.
The bout in question saw the unbeaten Shun Kubo (9-0, 7) successfully claim the title as he scored a 5th round win over the game but over-matched Filipino Lloyd Jardeliza (7-3-3, 6), who really had no answer for Kubo's power, speed or shot selection.
The first round saw both swinging in some wild shots as it seemed nerves got to both, in the second round however Kubo regained his composure and started to dominate the action with his natural traits being too much for the wilder Jardeliza, who was dropped twice in round 2.
The knockdowns were bad news for Jardeliza but not the end of the world and he tried to fight back. Unfortunately for him the fight lasted only to round 5 where he was taken out by a sensational left hand counter that sent Jardeliza down hard.
After the win Kubo seemed to suggest that his next target was a world title. We suspect it's too early for him however a performance like the one he had today will certainly help him move towards a world ranking and eventual world title shot.
