Over the past day or two we have been informed, by various sources, that WBO Super Bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire (36-3, 23) is eyeing a ring return in April with several opponents being mooted for a bout in the Philippines.
The biggest rumour at the moment is that Donaire will defend his title on either April 16th or April 23rd against former IBF Featherweight champion Evgeny Gradovich (20-1-1, 9). On paper this is a brilliant match up, if Gradovich can get down to 122lbs, however it does need to be noted that Gradovich hasn't shined in recent bouts with a 1-1-1 record in his last 3 and some signs that he is possibly on the slide, though saying that Donaire himself looks to have slipped significantly from the fighter he once was.
Whilst Gradovich is regarded as the leading name he's certainly not thought to be the only fighter that Donaire is interesting in facing and some fans may well want to see the Filipino in a rematch with gutsy Mexican Cesar Juarez (17-4, 13), who gave Donaire a tough night earlier this month in a late FOTY contender and would almost certainly jump at a chance to face the Filipino icon for a second time.
