Earlier today in the Philippines saw the weigh for tomorrow's WBO Light Flyweight world title bout between defending world champion Donnie Nietes (34-1-4, 20) and Mexican challenger Gilberto Parra (19-2, 17).
On the scales both men weighed in at 108lbs, bang on the division's weight limit and both looked to have made weight by getting into great shape and both appeared very confident ahead of their major bout.
In terms of weight this has been Donaire's domain for the last few years and he has rarely deviated from being 108lb on the scales, other than when he's been involved in above the limit stay busy fight. Likewise Parra has had no real issues making the weight though, has been as high as 112½lbs, albeit much earlier in his career.
For Parra this is a monster opportunity though one no one expects to see him make the most of. For Nietes it's a stepping stone towards a bigger bout in summer against Francisco Rodriguez Jr, a bout that deserves the tag of being a lower weight super fight.
