Tomorrow fight fans in Japan will get the chance to see Vietnamese fighter Nguyen Gok Hai (0-0) fight at the Korakuen Hall, making his debut against Mao Tameda (1-2-1), with both men having made weight earlier today.
Although Vietnamese boxing isn't particularly high profile the debut of Hai at the Korakuen Hall has generated quite a lot of attention following a relationship with Kawasaki Nitta gym, who are likely to sign Hai to a Japanese contract in the near future. At the moment he's based at the Samurai Boxing gym, run by former Kawasaki Nitta gym fighter Shogo Ojima, with Ojima looking to develop Vietnamese talent. The most promising of the fighters under Ojima appears to be Hai who has been pushed towards for his debut.
The talented Hai was a former amateur national star and his talent looks to be something that Samurai boxing, along with Kawasaki Nitta, are wanting to make the most of.
The hope had been to sign Hai as a Japanese fighter prior to tomorrow's bout with Tameda but visa issues had held that up, so as a result Hai will fight as a foreign fighter, but one who Kawasaki Nitta are hoping to secure long term following this bout.
