Earlier this week Japanese promoter Akihiko Honda, the head honcho at promotional powerhouse Teiken, stated that he was looking to match newly crowned WBC Super Flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez (46-0, 38) against Japanese sensation Naoya Inoue (11-0, 9) [井上 尚弥].
However he would want the bout for late in 2017, giving Gonzalez further time to establish himself as a Super Flyweight, and to get mandatory obligations out of the way, including a potential bout with Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.
It seems like Mr Honda has 3 names that he wants to see his charge against. One is a rematch with Carlos Cuadras, who he beat this past weekend, another is with former foe Juan Francisco Estrada and of course the other is Inoue.
Mr Honda also suggested that the bout wasn't guaranteed to be in Japan, with the US looking like the probably place for the contest, some Mr Ohashi has also stated in the past.
If everything goes to plan the bout could well see 3, if not 4, world titles on the line when the two sensations eventually meet.
