Just over 3 weeks ago we saw Naoya Inoue (11-0, 9) [井上 尚弥] record his 3rd defense of the WBO Super Flyweight title, stopping Petchbarngborn Kokietgym (38-8-1, 18) [เพชรบางบอน ก่อเกียรติยิม] in 10 rounds. Since then Inoue has been linked to the other 3 Super Flyweight champions, IBF king Jerwin Ancajas, WBA champion Luis Concepcion and WBC star Roman Gonzalez.
Although a bout with Gonzalez is the long term plan bouts with the two champions had been targeted for the immediate future, with both said to have been targets for Inoue's ring return in December. Sadly we've seen Concepcion take a different option and the rumour is that Ancajas may also be looking else where.
Despite those set backs there is a third notable name to enter the Inoue sweepstakes, former unified Flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada (33-2, 24). Estrada will be in the ring in early October and, if he wins, could end up being the man to face Inoue in December with both of them wanting a bout with Roman Gonzalez next year.
Although, again nothing is set in stone, a bout with Estrada would give Inoue an alternative if unification cannot be sorted for his December return.
Details of a possible Estrada bout were mentioned earlier today when Inoue took part in a public training sessions, along with other members of the Ohashi gym. It was Inoue's return to training and he's said to be fully fit, with the back injury, that had troubled him against the Thai, thought to be from fatigue. With several weeks rest the injury is said to have healed and his hands certainly seem to be better, with the star hitting the pads at today's session.
