Earlier today we reported that Roman Gonzalez (46-1, 38) and Naoya Inoue (13-0, 11) [井上 尚弥] had attended a joint press conference, to announce their September 9th bouts against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (42-4-1, 38) [ศรีสะเกษ นครหลวงโปรโมชั่น] and Antonio Nieves (17-1-2, 9).
Whilst the press conference's primary purpose was to announce Inoue's US debut it was clear there was an ulterior motive for both men to be there. That was the potential super fight betwene the Monster and Chocolatito. And neither man really tried to hide the fact that they were their to hype their potential showdown.
At the event this morning asomewhat chubby looking Gonzalez stated that he wanted to win his upcoming rematch with Srisaket so that he could fight Inoue, something that almost every fight fan wants to see. He also stated that he both he and Inoue have great respect and that the bout is something he genuine wants.
Inoue, who looked in great shape, has made it clear that he won't staying at Super Flyweight for much longer, but it does seem he's happy to delay a move to Bantamweight for a short time to face Gonzalez, potentially in December. That does however depend on Gonzalez over-coming Srisaket. If the Thai wins again it does seem as if Inoue will leave the division and chase a third divisional world title.
It should be noted that Gonzalez stated that he didn't think he should have lost the decision to the Thai, and that he will correct the issues that cost him against the naturally bigger man from the Land of Smiles. He also said that he would spend the next 2 months training in Japan at the Teiken gym, so as to put his training first and to keep a distance form the Nicaraguan media, whilst promising a KO against Srisaket.
