Several weeks ago we reported that IBF female Light Flyweight champion Naoko Shibata (14-3, 4) whould be defending her title on November 13th. At the time however we had no idea who she would be facing but just that she would be making the 4th defense of her title.
Today it was revealed that Shibata has now got an opponent lined up for the bout.
That opponent is Mexican fighter Maria Salinas (11-4-2, 4), who is going to be fighting in her second world title bout having previously challenged for the WBA female Minimimumweight, losing a decision to Etsuko Tada back in February 2012, in a previous bout in Japan.
For Shibata this bout will end a frustrating year that saw her twice prepare for a world title fight in Mexico before that bout collapsed. Sadly though those issues with bouts in Mexico will mean that she'll have been on the sideline for almost 9 months coming in to this bout. Unfortunately she may be rusty however so too will be Salinas who has been inactive since March herself.
