Earlier today it was announced that IBF female Light Flyweight champion Naoko Shibata (14-3, 4) would be traveling to Mexico later this month to make the 4th defense of her world title.
The 34 year old Tokyo native will be making her international debut in Guadalajara as she takes on the hugely experienced Esmeralda Moreno (30-7-1, 10).
Morena is herself a former world champion, having held the WBC Light Flyweight title, and has mixed with a very high level of opposition, such as Jessica Chavez and Simona Galassi. Not only is she talented but she will be entering this bout on a wave of confidence with 5 straight wins since suffering a split decision defeat to Maribel Ramirez.
For Shibata, the IBF female fighter of the year, this is a great opportunity to enhance her reputation, though she will be going in to this bout aware that she needs to win this one by a margin to get the decision in Mexico.
