Earlier this week we reported the news that former 2-weight world world champion Naoko Fujioka (13-1, 6) would be in action on October 19th at the Korakuen Hall in a bout for the vacant WBO female Bantamweight title. At the time of our first report we didn't who the opponent for Fujioka's bout was, though we did seem to know all the other details.
On Wednesday the talented 39 year old finally announced her opponent as "Yoo Hee" from South Korea.
From what we understand "Yoo Hee" is 35 year old Hee Jung Yuh (15-2, 6) who has won herlast 14 bouts and is unbeaten in more than 7 years!
Yuh has really made her name at Super Flyweight, where she claimed the IFBA, WIBF and WBC Asian Boxing Council female titles. Saying that however she's not stepping foot in the Bantamweight division for the first time and she's actually a former PABA female Bantamweight champion and a former South Korean female Super Bantamweight title challenger.
Given Yuh's form and success it's fair to say that this is a solid match up and one that could have been a lot worse. Yuh is far from a push over and although she's be the under-dog against Fujioka, most fighters tend to be. The Korean is the younger fighter and the naturally bigger fighter and may well try to make those advantages count against Fujioka, who is one of the best female fighters on the planet.
The bout is yet to be officially announced, but putting the pieces together it looks like it will be the main event of the upcoming "Fighting Bee" show and will act as either the main event or the co-feature of the show.
