We have just been informed that WBO Atomweight champion Nao Ikeyama (14-3-1, 4) will attempt to make the first defence of her title on September 20th. The 44 year old Ikeyama, the oldest female word champion, will be attempting to set a record for the oldest woman to defend a world title and will be 45 by the time she gets in the ring
Worryingly for Ikeyama she hasn't been matched easily and instead of a gimme she will be fighting former world title challenger Masae Akitaya (9-4-2, 3).
The fight will be a second bout between the two women who first fought back in May 2010 when Ikeyama took a very close decision over Akitaya. Since then Ikeyama has won 3 of 4 bouts whilst Akitaya won 4, drawn 2 and lost 2.
Ikeyama will be hoping for history to repeat it's self here whilst Akitaya will be hoping for revenge for her loss in their first meeting. With those things in mind we are expecting a ver good contest between two fighters looking to prove a point.
From what we understand this bout will take place at the Azalea Taisho in Osaka, a venue that may favour Akitaya who is from Osaka.
