Back in June we reported that Japanese super prospect Hinata Maruta (2-0, 1) [丸田 陽七太] had been sparring with former world title challengerWarlito Parrenas (24-7-1, 21). At the time all we had was images and written reports of the sparring sessions, but today Morioka boxing released some footage of the two men sparring.
The footage shows Maruta's speed and skills whilst Parrenas is made to look less like a world ranked fighter and more like a novice trying to get to the taller, faster and younger men.
The sparring was to help prepare Maruta for unbeaten Filipino Wilbert Berondo (10-0, 4), who he will be facing on July 3st for the WBC Youth Bantamweight title. The bout is Maruta's first title bout and whilst he is expected to win he seems to be aware that he still needs to put in the hard work to improve, which appears to be why Morioka have got the dangerous Parrenas to spar with their star prospect.
